  • A refrain for Psalm 52 - July 18

Summer is finally here for us on the southwest coast of BC, so I'm listening to birdsong and wind in the trees outdoors. The warmth feels good! And while I'm enjoying the breeze, I'm also taking care of final details before Cheryl and I head to Naramata Centre for a week of music leadership. And so, looking ahead to June 18, here's a brand new refrain for Psalm 52, the lectionary psalm for the day, a simple song of singing praise in community:

  • Justice and peace shall be our song!

"Justice and peace shall be our song, for all of life is holy!"

I've struggled this week with how to approach Psalm 82. In my weekly discipline of writing for the psalms and other texts, I typically find wonderful phrases which easily become refrains, but this one has stumped me. And so instead I have taken the essence of the psalm, which is critical of how we treat each other, and turned it into a refrain which reminds us of the God-presence in all of life. Sing along with us!

  • Songs for July 11

Some classic texts appear in the lectionary for July 11: Psalm 25 as the alternate psalm and Luke 10:25-37. Here are a couple of songs to help bring them to life:

    • "To you, O God, I lift my soul" (bulletin graphic and pdf) - a simple psalm refrain or song of praise which sounds amazing when sung in a close canon.
    • "Love God with all your heart" (pdf) - a brand new setting of an ancient commandment.

    Enjoy!
